I was paired with Miranda Escobar for the in-class activity to talk about the perfect class. Miranda told me several things what she does and doesn't like for a class, especially a 3-hour class. Considering the length of the class, she prefers shorter lectures and more interaction. She would also like for there to be time in the class to go over homework concepts. Overall, Miranda enjoys group work because she gets inspiration from hearing about other peoples' ideas. We also talked about some projects that she may be interested in doing. Thus, I came up with an activity that could be done multiple times in class that would be something that she would really enjoy doing.
For the ideal activity/class layout, we would start with a short lecture about a topic related to the class. Miranda mentioned that she would really enjoy hearing about real-world companies and how they apply techniques to their business. So for each topic, it would be ideal to hear about a company that successfully used that format/technique in their business plan and why they were successful as well as a company that may have failed and why they did. After hearing about the real-world examples, we could split into groups or have an open class discussion to hear about what our classmates have to say. Because this class is creativity and innovation, we thought it would be helpful to create our own businesses based on the topics that we learn in class so that we can learn how to apply it. So for the open discussion/group projects, we could create our own business for anything we want (fashion, restaurant, etc.) and that would give everyone a chance to share their ideas and receive feedback on why it could/couldn't work, which is crucial for Miranda so that she can gain inspiration and understand what could work with her own ideas. If this was a group project, Miranda ideally would like to have time in class to work with her group. Considering busy schedules, it would be best to have a lot of time allotted to group work in class so that we do not have to figure out a time that everyone is available, if there even is a time.
